Expert Carpet Cleaning & Steam Cleaning in Calgary — Since 2013

Three North Clean provides professional carpet cleaning services across all Calgary neighbourhoods. Using hot water extraction (steam cleaning) — the method recommended by most carpet manufacturers — we remove deep-seated dirt, allergens, stains, and odours that regular vacuuming cannot reach. Our carpet cleaning service has been trusted by Calgary homeowners since 2013.

Calgary's long winters mean more time indoors and more foot traffic on your carpets. Road salt, snow melt, pet dander, and everyday dirt accumulate in carpet fibres over time, affecting both the appearance and the air quality of your home. Professional carpet cleaning every 6–12 months keeps your carpets looking fresh, extends their lifespan, and creates a healthier indoor environment for your family.

Our Carpet Cleaning Process

Three North Clean's carpet cleaning process in Calgary follows a multi-step protocol that goes far beyond what a rental machine or basic steam cleaner can achieve:

  1. Pre-inspection: We assess the carpet type, fibre, and any visible staining before choosing the right cleaning solution. Not all carpets respond the same way — wool, nylon, polyester, and blended fibres each have different optimal approaches.
  2. Pre-treatment: High-traffic areas, pet spots, and visible stains receive a targeted pre-treatment applied and allowed to dwell before the main extraction.
  3. Hot water extraction: Our truck-mount and portable extraction units inject hot water and cleaning solution deep into the carpet pile, then immediately extract the dirty water along with dissolved dirt, allergens, bacteria, and debris. This is fundamentally different from surface-only cleaning.
  4. Spot treatment: Stubborn stains that remain after extraction receive additional targeted treatment. We use enzyme-based treatments for organic stains (pet urine, food, blood) and solvent treatments for synthetic stains.
  5. Deodorizing: A deodorizing treatment is applied to neutralize odours rather than mask them. For pet odour, we use enzyme-based odour eliminators that break down the source of the smell.
  6. Post-groom: After extraction, we use a carpet rake or grooming brush to restore the pile direction and appearance of the cleaned carpet.

Why Calgary Carpets Need Special Attention

Calgary presents specific carpet cleaning challenges that our team addresses every day:

  • Road salt residue: Calgary applies large quantities of road salt from November through March. Salt crystals tracked onto carpets dissolve and recrystallize, leaving white residue and eventually degrading carpet fibres. Standard cleaning can actually set salt stains if the wrong rinse water temperature is used.
  • Pet hair and dander: Calgary winters mean pets spend extended periods indoors. Pet hair embeds deeply into carpet pile and pet dander — a major allergen — binds to fibres. Our extraction process and pet-specific vacuum attachments remove both effectively.
  • Hard water, and which plant supplies you: Calgary draws from two treatment plants. Bearspaw serves broadly the north and northwest at roughly 141 to 200 mg/L of hardness, and Glenmore serves broadly the south and southeast at roughly 181 to 274 mg/L, averaging around 224 mg/L through 2025. Anything above 180 mg/L is classed as very hard. Calcium and magnesium ions react with the surfactants in cleaning solution to form insoluble deposits that will not rinse out, leaving a tacky film in the pile that attracts soil. It is the most common reason a carpet looks worse three months after a cheap clean than it did before. We dose with chelating agents and finish on an acidic rinse to prevent it. More on the underlying problem in our guide to Calgary hard water and cleaning.
  • Wildfire smoke seasons: During summer wildfire seasons, smoke particles settle throughout Calgary homes including into carpet fibres. A proper deep extraction removes these particles; surface cleaning does not.

Equipment, Water Temperature and Why It Matters

Most of the difference between a professional result and a rental machine result comes down to three numbers: solution temperature, extraction vacuum, and the pressure the solution is delivered at.

Soil release from carpet fibre is temperature dependent. Fats and oils that hold ground-in dirt to the fibre begin to soften and release properly somewhere around 150°F and above, which is why professional extraction runs hot. A consumer rental unit heats to roughly 100 to 130°F at the wand, and often less by the time water has travelled the hose, so it is working below the point where oily soil lets go. That is the real reason traffic lanes look better but not clean after a DIY pass.

Extraction vacuum matters just as much, and it is the part people overlook. Whatever water you put into the carpet has to come back out. Weak recovery leaves moisture in the pile and in the underpad, which is what causes both slow drying and wicking, where a stain that soaked into the pad travels back up the fibres as it dries and reappears a day later. When a stain comes back overnight, under-extraction is usually the cause rather than the stain itself.

Drying Times in Calgary

Expect 4 to 8 hours for carpet to be dry to the touch, and up to 24 hours before you put heavy furniture back on it. Calgary genuinely helps here. Our relative humidity is low for most of the year and drops sharply in winter once the furnace is running, so carpet dries faster in Calgary than in most Canadian cities. A Chinook with a bit of cross-ventilation will dry a room faster than any fan.

  • You can walk on the carpet immediately, but in clean socks rather than bare feet or shoes. Damp fibre picks up skin oils and outdoor grit readily.
  • Leave furniture off the carpet until it is fully dry. Wooden legs can bleed stain into damp pile and metal glides can leave rust marks.
  • Run the furnace fan or crack a window rather than closing the room up. Air movement matters more than heat.
  • Basements are the exception. They are the coolest, least ventilated space in most Calgary homes, and basement carpet over a concrete slab can take noticeably longer. We plan basement rooms first so they get the longest drying window.

Carpet Fibres and the Ones That Need Care

Fibre type changes the method, and getting it wrong causes damage that cleaning cannot undo. We identify the fibre before choosing a solution.

  • Nylon is the most common carpet in Calgary homes and the most forgiving. It takes hot extraction and a broad range of solutions well, and it is the fibre most likely to respond to stain treatment.
  • Polyester and triexta resist water-based staining well but are oil-loving, so grease and body oils cling to them. They need a solvent-side pre-treatment rather than more heat.
  • Olefin, often sold as Berber, is common in Calgary basements and rentals. It is bleach-resistant and cheap but it flattens permanently under traffic and holds oily soil badly. Berber also wicks more than any other common carpet, so it needs conservative moisture and thorough extraction.
  • Wool is protein fibre and must be treated as such. It cannot take high alkalinity or strong oxidisers, which will yellow or dissolve it, and it felts if agitated when wet. Wool gets lower temperatures, a pH-neutral to mildly acidic solution, and no aggressive brushing. If you have a wool carpet and a company quotes it at the same rate and method as nylon, ask more questions.

What the Price Includes, and What It Does Not

Included in every carpet clean

  • Fibre identification and pre-inspection
  • Pre-vacuum and pre-treatment of traffic lanes
  • Hot water extraction across the full room, not just visible marks
  • Spot treatment of stains found on the day
  • Acidic rinse to prevent hard water residue
  • Moving lightweight furniture such as dining chairs and side tables
  • Post-clean grooming to reset pile direction

Quoted separately

  • Enzyme treatment for pet urine, $25 to $50
  • Stairs, $40 to $60 per flight
  • Carpet protector application
  • Upholstery, mattresses, tile and grout
  • Moving beds, sofas, dressers and other heavy furniture
  • Area rugs that need off-site washing

We would rather tell you before the visit than surprise you during it. If pet urine has reached the underpad, or a rug turns out to need off-site treatment, we will say so and give you the number before starting rather than adding it to the invoice afterwards.
